LEMONT, IL — A bicycle lane is set to start construction on McCarthy Road, after approval from the Village Board at its Monday meeting. The Lemont Village Board approved a construction engineering services agreement for federal participation for the McCarthy Road bike lanes and resurfacing. According to board documents, the agreement will cost $167,907, of which 80 percent will be funded by federal funds. The village will use Novotny Engineering for the work. 6-foot wide paved shoulders in each direction and an on-street bicycle lane in the curbed roadway sections will be constructed on McCarthy Road, from Illinois Street to Walker Road, board documents state. Construction will begin in April. "We'll see activity probably at the end of April on McCarthy Road," Public Works Director Ralph Pukula said. "And that project will last most of the summer, if not all the summer."
