Description

This basic, introductory-level class will equip stylists with the cultural awareness, knowledge and skill to begin caring for Black hair. At HAPI (Hair Artists in Pursuit of Inclusion), it is our desire to be a catalyst for change within our community and respective industries. We know real change starts from the bottom up and not the top down. No Black person should ever be turned away for a service because a professional stylist doesn’t know how to care for their hair. Our “Black Hair Matters” workshop series is designed to bring diversity and inclusion to the salon industry starting from the ground up. All classes are led by BIPOC stylists. This basic, 101-level class will equip stylists with the cultural awareness, knowledge, and skill to begin caring for Black hair. Areas of focus will include: Identifying & mitigating systemic racism in the industry History of Black hair & its implications on Black cultureAvoiding emotional damage and the importance of cultural awarenessUnique principles of Black hair structure & haircareHands-on learning & technical haircut demonstrationFor more information, please email Cherie at [email protected] or visit www.blackhairmatters.co. *Due to Covid-19, we will be following all social distancing guidelines and recommendations.
