Wheaton Cops Seize Gun From Felon Out On Bond: Police

WHEATON, IL— Wheaton police say a two-time felon was out on bond for charges in Cook County when he was caught with a loaded handgun in his home. Keith Summers, 26, of the 0-100 block of Wheaton Center, was charged with one count of armed habitual criminal in connection with Thursday's incident. Summers's home was searched by Indiana State Police and the Wheaton Police Department Thursday, following a Feb. 24 shots fired incident that took place on I-55 at Cicero Avenue. Police say they found a Glock handgun with an extended-round magazine during the search and that the gun's serial number had been removed. Summers was taken into custody after the gun was discovered. He is currently being held without bond in DuPage County Jail. "As a two-time convicted felon, who is currently out on bond on Armed Habitual Criminal charges, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that Mr. Summers should have been in possession of a handgun, as alleged in this case," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. Berlin added, "The allegation that Mr. Summers continued to break the law while on bond are outrageous and will be met with the full force of the law. The only way to protect the public from a man who has no regard for the rule of law and continues to commit violent crimes while on bond for violent crimes is to hold that individual in custody pending trial." Summers is set to appear in court again March 24.
