San Diego County Reports Almost 5-Month Low In New COVID Cases, At 187, Along With 5 Deaths

By Editor, Times of San Diego March 8, 2021 The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency reported 187 new coronavirus infections Sunday and five more deaths. That's the lowest number of new daily positives since Oct. 15, when the county reported 143 cases. Out of 13,018 tests reported in the past day, just 1% returned positive. That left the 14-day rolling average of positive tests down again, to 3.2%. As recently as mid-January, the average had approached 15%. The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 also continued to drop, to 351, with 113 of them in intensive care units. There were four new community outbreaks in the county reported Sunday. There have been 25 outbreaks over the last seven days with 97 cases associated with them. Meanwhile, vaccinations continued to rise, and the city of San Diego's Fire-Rescue Department announced the availability of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at their vaccination center at Balboa Park. Since the first local coronavirus case was reported nearly a year ago there have been 262,968 cases in San Diego County and 3,390 deaths.
