By Jon DePaolis, the Richard Free Press: TINLEY PARK, Ill. — Village of Tinley Park Trustee Michael Glotz has been named to the board of directors for Together We Cope, a homeless prevention agency located in Tinley Park. Glotz — who is running for mayor of Tinley Park in the April 2021 municipal election and is an International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 operator — has organized fundraisers for the Tinley Park nonprofit in the past. "I'm all about building relationships and helping the community," Glotz stated in a press release issued by Together We Cope. "That's how I approach the job of helping Together We Cope continue its excellent work in our community. I hope to use my position in the community to promote TWC and will focus on fundraising for the agency. My goal will be to help raise money, so TWC can help the residents of our region." Together We Cope Executive Director Kathryn Straniero stated in the news release that Glotz's appointment comes at a critical time for the organization, as the COVID-19 pandemic has halted many of the agency's fundraising efforts. "We feel fortunate to have someone with Mike's commitment to community join us at a time when we need some energy in our quest for funding," she stated. Per the press release, Glotz stated that his sense of volunteerism came from the values instilled by his family. "My grandparents were always volunteering at church or Oak Forest Hospital, and as a kid I often accompanied my grandmother somewhere to help someone out," he stated. "It was the same with my parents. They were always helping our neighbors with one thing or another. Both were active in clubs at my schools. And both were volunteer firefighters in our local department. My dad went to night school and became the department's first volunteer paramedic. My mom was one of the first female firefighters. "I don't forget where I came from. My parents always instilled in us how important it is to help others in need. I had great examples in them, and now I am happy to be helping so many others through Together We Cope."
