LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange's rate of increase in coronavirus cases dropped again to the lowest rate since the beginning of the crisis. As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 1,865 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 20 from a week before, or a 1 percent increase. In the few weeks before that, the increases ranged from 1 percent to 6.4 percent. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 31. The latest death was Feb 13. All the local deaths have been those who were 61 or older, according to the medical examiner. The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.7 percent. Of the entire population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands, 9.8 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,198,335, up 1 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 20,763 state residents. Nationally, 28.7 million people have caught the virus, up 1.5 percent from the week before. A total of 521,294 people have died from the virus in the United States.
