JOLIET, IL — An Indiana newspaper reported that the body of a Joliet woman who has been missing since 1988 has been identified as Jennifer Noreen Denton, 24. The Times of Northwest Indiana reported that a fisherman found a slain woman's body on Oct. 8, 1988 in Newton County, Indiana. Recently, the Doe Network, an agency that helps police with cold cases and unidentified homicide victims, helped determine that the unidentified body was Denton, the Joliet woman, the newspaper reported. Denton's remains were discovered in the Willow Slough State Fish and Wildlife Area, which is near the Indiana/Illinois state line, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana. Denton's remains were found along with Selease "Tony" Sherrod, a man whose van was set on fire and discovered in Illinois, about three miles from the bodies. Both victims had been shot and their bodies burned using tires and tree limbs, according to The Times. "This case is still considered to be open and further investigations are underway into these murders," Newton County Indiana Coroner Scott McCord told Chicago's ABC Channel 7.
