ANAHEIM, CA — All California theme parks now have a roadmap to reopening after a year of shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. While Disneyland Resort officials have yet to release an official re-opening date for the Southern California theme park, guests anxiously await the chance to return to the happiest place on earth. Many details will be worked out in the coming weeks, but here's what we know so far about Disneyland's reopening: 1. When Will Disneyland Reopen? Disneyland is allowed to reopen on or after April 1. Whether that will be the reopening date for the park remains to be seen. Restaffing of the resort is already underway, and both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure could be back to limited operation by April 6. Still, special events— such as the sold-out "Touch of Disney" held at Disney California Adventure that starts on March 18— may delay the reopening date. That event is slated to run through April 19, Thursdays through Mondays, from noon until 8 p.m. For now, as of Monday: Downtown Disney and Buena Vista Street are open.A Touch of Disney, a new, ticketed experience at Disney California Adventure Park, opens March 18 to a small, ticketed audience. The resort hotels remain closed and will reopen at a later date.Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park remain closed and will reopen at a later date, pending state and local government approvals. 2. Who Can Visit Disneyland This Spring? Only California residents will be allowed at the parks until Orange County reaches the orange and yellow tiers of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Small groups, with a maximum of 10 people, or 3 household groups, may attend the resort together while the county is in the red tier. Once the county moves into the less restrictive orange tier, capacity can be raised to 25 percent of park capacity. Outdoor attractions can open, and advanced reservations will be required but only California residents are allowed to attend in the orange tier. Once the county returns to the yellow tier, the capacity to Disneyland will increase to 35 percent — and the park will open up for visitors from places outside of California. 3. How Can You Get Tickets To Disneyland? Tickets will be available for sale online-only, for California residents, until further notice. Tickets will likely also be available via the Disneyland App and park reservations will be required, as is the current case at Walt Disney World, Shanghai Disney, and other Disney properties. Learn more about ticketing at the Disneyland Resort website. 4. What Rides Will Be Open At Disneyland? If looking at other Disney reopenings offers any clues, (Walt Disney World, Shanghai Disney) visitors can expect limited rides at the park. Rides that are "outside" will be open, while indoor attractions may take longer to board, or be closed for the time being. (Patch has requested a list of rides that will be open, and will update this report when that is received). While in the red tier, the park will focus on rides that are primarily outdoors. Most rides will run at 15 percent of the maximum, with time restrictions, according to the state guidelines. Once Orange County reaches the less-restrictive orange tier, though the park can open to 25 percent capacity, indoor experiences will have both limited capacity and limited time restrictions. If Orange County is in the yellow tier, the park can raise total capacity to 35 percent, while indoor capacity will remain at 25 percent, according to the state's blueprint for a safer economy. Interactions for shopping, ordering food, and more will be contact-free, according to the resort. " We are recommending cashless transactions, and we will reduce Cast Member and Guest interactions with helpful technology," a spokesperson said. Those touch-free systems include the expansion of Mobile Order in our Disneyland app, Apple Pay. 5. New Health And Safety Measures In Place At Disneyland Resort When you go, expect temperature checks at the gate, social distancing throughout the park, and limited-contact enhancements, a resort spokesperson says. There are mandatory face coverings for park workers and guests alike. Hand-washing stations, physical barriers, new queue setups, and "new types of character interaction" are expected. Enhanced cleaning and sanitation will be visible throughout the parks. More information will be released soon! and this report will be updated with the latest Disneyland Reopening information.
