ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw the same rate of increase in coronavirus cases last week as it did the week before, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, the city experienced 41 new cases in the last week, or a 1.1 percent hike. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same over the last week, at 60. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.6 percent. That is down by two from the previous week. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 173 people have died from the coronavirus at the facility. The number is the same as a week ago. Since March, 1,570 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital following treatment for confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the hospital. Elmhurst Hospital's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.
