Description
STRONGSVILLE, OH — More than 2,000 sensory awareness kits were donated to preschools, daycares and community centers in Cleveland's southwest suburbs.
The kits will help families identify sensory issues in children early. Each kit comes with an Ollie the Octopus doll and a card with "sensory red flags" that describe in easy-to-understand language how families can identify if their child is at risk.
Parents who suspect their child may have sensory issues can register for a free, 15-minute Sensory Consultation with a pediatric occupational therapist from Abilities First, LLC. Consultations will take place virtually, via Zoom, on March 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Consultations are open for children 18-months-old to 12-years-old.
To sign up for a time slot, visit www.connectingforkids.org/consult. Those who register will be emailed information about how to join the consult using the free Zoom app or by calling in using a toll-free number.
During February, Connecting for Kids distributed the kits to facilities in Berea, Brecksville, Broadview Heights, Brook Park, Independence, Middleburg Heights, North Royalton, Parma, Parma Heights and Strongsville.
The kits were donated by Bendix Commerical Vehicle Systems, Church of the Resurrection and the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
