Good with little engines?

I have a generator with a gasoline engine that won't start. It has only been needed a few times in the last 6 years, but got it going each time. This time, no luck, but I was just checking it. I also have a 2 cycle 49cc go kart. I am having trouble getting it running and looks like I need to tighten a gear. Easy I am sure for someone who is talented with little engines.
