An environmental services technician maintains the overall cleanliness and sanitation of the healthcare facility in which they work. They do so by performing a range of cleaning tasks, from mopping and floor buffing to room sanitizing and waste disposal. Although they are generally not responsible for laundering linens, they are responsible for distributing linens and tracking the linens used per department. They are also responsible for refilling toilet paper and other paper products to rooms as needed. Environmental services technicians work under an environmental services director or supervisor. Required Skills In order to effectively perform the duties of an environmental services technician, a candidate must know how to operate heavy machinery like floor buffers and shampooing machines. In addition, they need to have familiarity with industrial cleaners and chemicals and be able to use them safely. They must take direction from their supervisors in both written and oral formats, and they must work effectively with a diverse population.
