Networking Mixer will take place after the event. __________ ABOUT THE SPEAKERTom Berry is an established, seasoned real estate investor, teacher, and public speaker in the greater Houston area. Like many, Tom dreamed of self-employment and to establish long-term wealth. He decided to take the risk and left his nine-to-five only to experience the financial crash in 2007, forcing him to close the doors of his financial service firm. It was after this that he ventured into the world of real estate investing and he’s never looked back. Since then, Tom and his wife, Melissa, have accumulated a portfolio of over 400 houses and apartment units, as well as several other commercial rental properties. Today, with over a decade of real estate investing experience, Tom is the Founder and Principal Owner of several companies. In 1996 he and Melissa started a financial service firm. His business thrived for the next ten years. Tom was licensed in insurance, mortgage, debt consolidations, and mutual funds at the time. The two spent most of their days across the kitchen table in their client’s homes. They discussed their client's dreams and financial goals analyzing what they wanted to accomplish financially. They created a strategic financial plan to help them achieve these goals. Then, in 2007, he lost everything. According to Tom, experiencing this loss was one of the best things that ever happened to him, as it forced him down a different path. With a negative $65,000 to their name, they began to invest in real estate with the goal of becoming multi-millionaires within five years. They beat this goal by one year and together their portfolio is now worth over $19 million, the vast majority of it purchased with private money. Tom’s personal journey, hardships and professional success have given him a great deal of empathy, knowledge and perspective, all of which have made him a better person and lender. They have also taught him lessons that have helped him as a leader and investor. He’s learned the importance of setting goals in all areas of one’s life and that there is always more to learn in this business or any business. Additionally, one must always remember that real estate is a cyclical market that goes up and down. In order to truly be financially bulletproof, one must have multiple streams of income.
