Description
Before flagging, note that I talked to the shelter staff who advised me to try to rehome her myself. I am waiting for the shelter appt which is almost 2 months out so I will try to find her a home sooner or she will be returned to the shelter, which ever comes first.
We adopted a dog in March 2020 and while she made vast improvements, there are ongoing issues for which I do not have the capacity. This is the first time I have owned a small dog and it sounds like breed issues - she pees on the bed. She will, if given the chance, eat food she is not supposed to ie cat's food, human food left on the table. She improved on these issues and they are infrequent compared to before (she came totally undisciplined and pottied anywhere in the beginning, and constantly jumped up on chairs to eat anything). While less frequent than before, I will not invest more time as my patience has run out after one year - if there is someone with small dog experience, who could watch her 24/7 or doesn't care for the issues above, she is a great match. In addition, I initally hoped to have a dog I could take to the office and she is not that dog; as typical for a chihuahua, she will go out of her way to bark at strangers and other dogs (when off leash). She is used to walks and won't do this when in walk mode, though. For a small dog, she has big dog personality, loves car rides, snuggles and is a total lap dog, will fetch for hours, and does well with children. She really gets along with kids well, which is atypical for small breeds.
Her rehoming will be half that of what you would pay at the shelter to prevent her being passed around / sold, or for use as a bait dog. After 2 months if she is not rehomed, the shelter will take her back.
