It can handle multiple cats and is totally safe with auto shut off if a cat tries to enter while it is cycling. This unit is less than a year old and has been disassembled and totally scrubbed clean. It is still in the original packaging and comes with optional ramp and splash fence worth $75. This unit sells for $500 and I am sacrificing this one for $300 as I no longer have a cat.
