240th Guided Battlefield Tours at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park Tour ExpectationsEach tour group is limited to 50 people. You must sign up on this platform and verify your name at the start of the tour. The Saturday and Sunday tours are repeats in content, allowing you to catch each program. These tours will cross the battlefield on a variety of terrain: paved roads, gravel paths, paved paths, with some steep and moderate hills. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Masks are required indoors, and outdoors where social distancing cannot occur. Rain will lead to cancellation of tours. Saturday March 13th 9:00 – 10:00 AM: Ranger Battlefield Tour How did the Battle of Guilford Courthouse happen? Follow along with park rangers as they use historic maps and take you to critical parts of the battlefield to discuss major events of March 15, 1781. This one-hour tour starts at the Visitor Center and follows a 1.5 mile trail on a gravel path. 10:00 – 11:30 AM: The Whole Would Seem Fictitious.”That is how the commander of the Regiment Von Bose characterized what his men endured during the Guilford Courthouse Campaign. Join a park ranger to learn about these often-mythologized soldiers, the Hessians, and follow in their footsteps at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. This tour is approximately 2 miles and 1 1/2 hours long. A portion of the tour goes over unpaved uneven trails. Meet the Park Ranger at the Hoskins Farm Site parking lot at 2200 New Garden Road. 12:30 – 1:45PM: Battlefield Tour Join volunteer Scott Culclasure for a tour of the battlefield. Follow the Historic New Garden Road from one end to the other. Our walk will last approximately 75 minutes and will cover the main points of the battle. Meet Dr. Culclasure at the front of the Visitor Center. 2:00 – 3:00 PM: Ranger Battlefield Tour How did the Battle of Guilford Courthouse happen? Meet Dr. Culclasure at the front of the Visitor Center. 4:00 – 4:45 PM: The Maryland ExperienceThe Maryland Continental soldiers were composed of experienced and inexperienced regiments. Learn about individual soldiers and what happened at the 3rd Line. Meet the Park Ranger at Tour Stop 6. This tour will last for 45 minutes and follow a half mile path. We suggest that you either park your car at Tour Stop 6 or the Lot on Old Battleground Road to avoid having your car locked in the gates at 5pm.
