Important Public Hearing on Virtual Learning THIS Monday At the start of the 2021 legislative session, my colleagues and I announced our intention to push for The Education Committee will hold an important public hearing on Monday, March 8 at 10:00 a.m. to consider testimony on S.B. 977, An Act Concerning Virtual Learning.The purpose of this committee bill is "to require the Department of Education to develop uniform standards for the provision of virtual learning in public schools, conduct a comprehensive audit of virtual learning programs in the state and develop guidelines for training educators in the provision of virtual learning."This is your opportunity to share your experiences with virtual learning and ideas on how it can be improved.Please note: the deadline to register is tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER Click here for additional details, including how to testify via email. Governor Announces Changes to COVID-19 Restrictions Today, the governor has announced several changes to COVID-19 restrictions on businesses and places of worship. This is in response to positive data, including a decrease in infection rates and hospitalizations. All protocols related to mask and face covering requirements, social distancing, and cleaning measures will remain in place. Here are the highlights:Beginning March 19, 2021 All capacity limits will be lifted for restaurants (8 person limit per table), retail stores, offices, libraries, places of worship, museums, aquariums, zoos, personal services, and gyms and fitness centersPrivate residences may now host up to 25 people indoors/100 outdoorsCommercial venues may now host up to 100 people indoors/200 outdoorsAll sports will be allowed to practice, compete, and play in tournaments subject to public health guidanceThe state's travel advisory will be modified from a requirement to a recommendation Beginning March 29, 2021 Capacity on early childhood classes (daycare/childcare centers) will increase to 20 (currently 16) Beginning April 2, 2021 Outdoor amusement parks may openOutdoor event venues may operate at 50 percent capacity (10,000 person limit)Indoor stadiums may open at 10 percent capacitySummer camps and summer festivals are advised to begin preparations to open for the upcoming season Please note: Bars that only serve drinks will remained closed and indoor theaters will remain limited to 50 percent capacity.
