Description
About 2 years ago I got this lovely girl as a family pet for my two very young children and I. Fast-forward to January 2021 and my children, now older, begged and pleaded and finally convinced me to add a kitten to the family. I was certain that the kitty couldn't reach the birdie's cage ( which is located on a reasonably-high stand ), and up until today I saw nothing to worry me. Unfortunately it turns out that kitty CAN reach the birdcage by jumping up onto the table ( which he is not allowed on! ) and latching onto the side of the cage itself with his claws and climbing to the top to harass the bird. I noticed and grabbed him off before anyone could get hurt, thankfully, but this is a serious problem because the kids and I are gone for large chunks of the day, kitty has to stay indoors for his own safety, and there is absolutely NO OTHER PLACE where I can put the bird where she would be out of kitty's reach. It's clear this situation is a ticking time bomb and I don't want risk the bird getting hurt, so it is with a heavy heart that I've decided to find Carol ( the bird ) a new, loving home ( I love both animals but the children are way more attached to the kitten because he is a more cuddly and interactive pet ). Carol ( you don't have to keep the name if you don't want, obviously ) was purchased in May of 2019 from a feed store in Washington State. She is about 2 and a half years old. Canaries can live 10 to 12 years so she is still fairly young with plenty of life in her! She is a very sweet and relatively quiet girl who loves free-flying ( which she has been unable to do for a couple of months now because of the cat ), sunshine, fresh air, and being in the center of human activity ( we've always kept her near patios in the kitchen or living room so she could enjoy fresh air and sunshine while seeing a lot of us ). She likes people, but like most canaries she doesn't like to be handled and will not perch on your finger or fly to you when you open the cage. You CAN hold her in your hand if you have to though: she is extremely gentle and will not freak out or try to bite you. She does sing, but her song is quieter, shorter, and more subdued than what you would hear with a male. She sings the most in the mornings and early evenings. She is good about returning to her cage on her own when she is done free-flying, but I am including her catch-net in case you need to catch her when she is free due to an accidental escape or for any reason. She has never been bred. She is in the middle of a molt right now so her wing-feathers are a bit disorderly and uneven, but she is in good health and I have never had any concerns with her. She does tend to go into nesting mode and lay eggs whenever she receives 12+ hours of light per day, so do be aware of that. I supplement her body with extra calcium in the form of canary egg food (comes with her) and a calcium drop to her water (comes with her) whenever she is molting or laying eggs. She comes with everything pictured plus a catch-net. $100 FIRM. I want to ensure she goes to a good home and recover a small portion of the money I have spent on her. Her setup is easily worth twice as much but I need her gone asap for her own safety. To a good home only, please! You may text me or email me ( no phone calls, please! ), but please be aware that I do not usually respond to emails or texts between the hours of midnight and noon. Thanks for reading!
