WINDHAM, NH — Windham Fire and firefighters from surrounding towns responded to a report of a structure fire in a retail plaza at Rockingham Road on Friday.
Around 1 p.m., there were initial reports that a welder caught insulation on fire and the fire spread to the wall and roof. When firefighters arrived, they found a small amount of fire in the rear area of the building where construction was being done.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and worked to evacuate smoke from the area.
Several small businesses in the plaza were evacuated while firefighters worked to remove the smoke.
The space that was under construction was the only part of the building that had fire damage.
Space is being worked on to provide a commercial prep-kitchen for Rig-A-Tony's, according to the permit taped to the door. All businesses were able to reoccupy.
Windham fire says the fire appears to be accidental and they are handling the investigation. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
