Student Council, Lions Club Collects Over 3,000 Pairs Of Socks

FRANKFORT, IL — Hickory Creek Middle School Student Council and the Lions Club of Frankfort partnered to collect over 3,000 pairs of socks from students, staff and the community, the district said in a release. The drive more than doubled its original goal of 1,500 pairs for those in need. "You're an inspiration to all of us that you're doing community service so young," Principal Tricia Dotson told the student council. Lions Club members also shared how they got involved with community service, and discussed the Frankfort Township Food Pantry, a recent Lions Club coat drive, veteran's food drive, and Toys for Tots. "These are kids who want to be the base of Hickory Creek, who want to get their peers involved and to do great things like this.... It starts right now. You might be 12 or 13, but it starts here," Dotson said. Superintendent Dr. Maura Zinni also thanked the student council, stating, "You are so great at giving back to our community and making it fun for the rest of the students at Hickory Creek. We've heard some really sincere stories about gratitude here and it starts early. I'm sure that there are many, many families thankful for all of your efforts. You should be very proud of yourselves. Giving back is an activity that is so worthwhile and so meaningful to people you won't even know." The Lions Club holds meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the Founders Community Center located at 140 Oak St. in Frankfort.
