PLYMOUTH, MN — A train derailment in suburban Minneapolis Sunday afternoon left no one injured, according to reports. About a dozen train cars went off the tracks near Northwest Boulevard and Schmidt Lake Road in Plymouth just before 1 p.m., according to a CBS Minnesota report.
Plymouth police confirmed the derailment involved about a dozen train cars, and urged drivers to avoid the area, so crews can work at the crash site safely. They asked that people follow "road and pedestrian" closures that resulted from the crash.
Photos shared on Twitter show a few train cars upside down after the derailment.
A report that the train cars were carrying liquid sulfur has not been confirmed. Police said just before 4 p.m. there is no threat to public safety "at this time."
