Aurora Man Sentenced To 30 Years Following Multiple Gun Crimes

AURORA, IL – An Aurora man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in connection with multiple gun crimes, officials announced Friday. Alexavier Fuentes, 23, pleaded guilty this week to various offenses, including armed violence, possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful use of a weapon by a gang member. According to Kane County Assistant State Attorney Joseph Cullen, on Aug. 30, 2018, Fuentes – who is a member of an Aurora street gang – approached a car that was occupied by someone he believed was a member of a rival gang and fired two shots from a semiautomatic weapon into the car. When Fuentes was arrested for the crime by Aurora police the next day, he was in possession oof a loaded semiautomatic handgun that he owned illegally due to a January 2018 conviction of aggravated unlawful use of a felony, according to officials. In September 2016, Aurora police stopped a vehicle for a traffic offense. As the driver ran away, he threw a loaded semiautomatic handgun to the ground. In May 2019, police confirmed through DNA evidence that Fuentes was the person who had thrown the gun and ran away from police. Fuentes will receive credit for 915 days he has already served in Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest.
