BIRMINGHAM, AL — This past week saw some statewide news that will have a significant effect on Birmingham, with new COVID-19 health orders in place. But some other hyperlocal stories made headlines this past week as well. The Birmingham PD issued more than 20 citations related to street racing in Birmingham, part of an effort to stop the illegal activity that has been prevalent in the area. Also, 10-year-old Ethan Hill was honored by the Minority Business Awards, becoming the youngest recipient of the Academic Leader Award. Kay Ivey on Thursday announced she is extending Alabama's mandatory mask order until April 9. The current order was set to expire Friday. CVS Offers COVID-19 Vaccines In Alabama CVS pharmacies added more locations in Alabama to its list of stores offering the COVID-19 vaccine. Local 10-Year-Old Receives Birmingham Leadership Award Ethan Hill became the youngest recipient of the prestigious Academic Leader Award at the 2021 Birmingham Minority Business Awards. Birmingham PD Cracks Down On Street Racing In an effort to crack down on the illegal activity of street racing in Birmingham, an investigation by Birmingham police over the weekend resulted in multiple arrests and citations. 2 Women Arrested In Feb. 27 Shooting That Inured 2-Year-Old Child Two women have been arrested in connection with a Feb. 27 shooting incident that injured a 2-year-old child. The incident occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Boxwood Circle.
