Description
I like bees, and save them when I can. This isn't one of those times. We have a hive that has moved into our ceiling dead-space, and there's no way of getting them out which will preserve the hive, unfortunately. There is also a roof leak which we haven't been able to fix due to the bees, which is wrecking our floors, etc. To make matters more difficult, we're an older couple who has been advised to isolate until after getting Covid vaccination, and the roof involved - while not steep - is 2 stories off the ground and I'm unsteady on a ladder these days. So I'm looking for a bit of help, and will describe. (Basically, this is all stuff I'd just do myself if I was allowed on ladders these days.) We need to seal shut the entry hole, and then I'll inject toxin in to kill the hive. This means someone needs to climb the ladder to the roof, which is a metal standing-seam roof of about 15 degrees one-way pitch, and use "great stuff" or caulking to close the hole which allows them entry (and exit). (I sent a guy up previously but he entirely mistook where he thought they were entering and closed up an area unrelated to the bees.) Another tool is a shop-vac, which can be used to suck up any bees which emerge while looking at the thing. For that matter, I also have a bee jacket with screen hood which can be used. The bees go inside at night and emerge at dawn, so sealing them in at such a time is optimal IF one is sure they actually are sealing the hole instead of some random other spot. Then again, if it's dark and one is using a light, any bees which do come out will be drawn to the light. Any sealing shut needs to be done when most of the bees are inside. This should be pretty straightforward to do, but clearly it requires someone who can suss out where the bees are going in and out. I haven't been up there since my wife won't let me go to the upper roof with my medical conditions, but have seen video of it, and it should be straightforward. Obviously not something for a person who's allergic, but I've dealt with moving probably two dozen hives in the past without ever getting stung, and that was without a bee jacket. We need to eliminate the bee colony in order to get roof repairs done, so that's job one. Email if interested, thanks. (We don't use a smart phone, so email is best).
