Join us to contribute to the collective design of an Immigrant Mural in Newark! We will explore our intersecting immigrant narratives! We are having two workshop sessions, one at 1pm and another at 4pm - join us as we design messages and ideas for public art that center the voices of immigrant in the city of Newark. Mask, social distancing and Sign up is required. WE ARE HOME: The making of a fearless and boundless collective Undocu/Immigrant monument. We Are Home is a collaboration to imagine and bring to life a mural monument for our undocumented immigrant community, by our undocu community, and provide additional empowerment tools. We would like you to be a part of this project! ... We Are Home is a collaboration with the artist Layqa Nuna Yawar and the ImVisible project, ImVisible is a community-based project developed to empower the undocumented and immigrant community in Newark through multimedia storytelling. During the winter of 2021, the collective will host a series of community art-build programs to conceptualize a permanent mural that will amplify undocumented voices as part of Four Corners Public Art project. These engagements will result in a collaborative mural design and an ongoing series of educational posters made accessible to the public for free. The mural will be implemented in the Spring of 2021. As a community that has historically lived in the shadows in fear and shame, this monument opposes undocumented people's misrepresented narrative. It asks our community to have the audacity to represent themselves how they see fit visually! Apart from the mural, we aim to create an informational poster series that educates the undocumented community members that may not have the language, access, or time to learn about fundamental rights, resources, and opportunities.
