BEVERLY, MA — There will be something fishy going on in Beverly this spring as part of the city's second annual "Art in the Park" program. This year's theme will be "Hyper Stripers" with local artists asked to paint or decorate large fish-shaped profiles that will be showcased at Hale Farm in May and auctioned online. The deadline for applying is March 16. To be considered, artists must complete an online form and upload three photos of prior work. Artists must be 16 years old or older — a program for those 15-and-younger will be announced soon — and while they can live and work anyway, they will be responsible for picking up and dropping off the artwork in Beverly. After the showcase, the art will be auctioned with the winning bid split evenly between the artitsts and Beverly Main Streets. Artists involved in the auction will receive a minimum of $100. Last year's auction theme was "Bass in the Grass" and can be viewed here. There is a limited amount of fish available for artwork. The canvas is 3 feet tall and 1 foot wide made of PVC. Since these will be displayed outdoors, all paint and materials must be wind, water and weatherproof. The stripers will be freestanding with both sides and edges needing to be painted. Artists chosen for the project will be notified around March 23 with the canvas available around March 26. The deadline to complete the artwork is April 22 with an anticipated opening at Hale Farm on May 8 depending on the weather. Go here for more information. Did you find this article useful?
