CROWNSVILLE, MD — Police said they arrested a Crownsville man Wednesday, charging him with possessing child pornography. An incident report indicated that the accused man, Jared Ethan Johnson, is 36 years old.
Detectives noted that they started the investigation on June 25, 2020 after they got a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators thought they may find evidence in Johnson's home, located in the 1000 block of Tudor Drive.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department secured a warrant and searched the home on July 24, 2020, the report added. The write-up mentioned that Johnson was home during the search.
Officers reported taking several devices for analysis. Police alleged that they found about 18,000 images of child pornography on them.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant, but they explained that Johnson fled the state. The United States Marshals Service informed that it found Johnson Wednesday at a hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Police arrested Johnson without incident and took him to the nearest jail where he awaits extradition to Maryland, a press release detailed. The report clarified that Johnson is up against 10 charges of possessing child pornography, a misdemeanor.
Detectives are still investigating the incident. They asked anybody with information to call (410) 222-4733. Tipsters can stay anonymous by dialing (410) 222-4700.
