Nonprofit Gives $42K To Support Marylanders With Disabilities

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — An Anne Arundel County nonprofit opened applications Monday for $42,000 in grant money to serve people with disabilities. The group, called The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, seeks Maryland applicants who have children under 21 with an intellectual or developmental disability. The grant comes through The Arc's Family Fund. The awards, which will be announced in May, cover services that are not covered by insurance. To apply, head to thearcccr.org/familyfund/. "There are effective therapies, services, and adaptive equipment available to support children with disabilities, but these resources are expensive and are often not covered by insurance," The Arc CEO Jonathon Rondeau said in a press release. "With our Family Fund, we work to fill the gaps in access to the supports we know make a significant difference in the lives of youth with a disability." The Arc dedicated $19,000 of the grant money to people with autism. The Bowen Foundation for Autism contributed that chunk. "We are excited to widen the reach of the Family Fund, with the support of our affiliate, The Bowen Foundation for Autism," Rondeau added. "Despite the ongoing pandemic, the amount we have to grant this year to families has increased by $10,000.
