DARIEN, CT — The Darien Library was closed Thursday, March 4, following news that several staffers tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19), and late Thursday officials announced the building will remain closed until March 10. "As a result of four confirmed COVID-19 cases among staff, and an additional six staffers currently quarantining, the Library building will be closed from Friday, March 4, through Wednesday, March 10," officials announced. "We are working to resume Community Room holds pick-up service and returns as soon as possible; patrons can find the latest updates at darienlibrary.org/update." Thursday's closure was to allow the remaining staff "to complete contact tracing and sanitize the building." But with at least 10 staffers now impacted, that process will likely take more time. "Librarians are working remotely to provide reference, research, and readers' advisory assistance at 203-669-1234 or [email protected]," officials said. "Virtual programming will continue as planned, and Digital Darien is available 24/7 with your Darien Library card." In recent weeks, the library had been open to the public "for quick 30-minute browsing and computer access," extended visits had not been allowed over the past several months. "The health and safety of our community and patrons is our top priority," officials said.
