PROVIDENCE, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Health is again running coronavirus blood testing effort. Known as serology testing, it checks for antibodies, which indicate if a person had COVID-19 in the past. Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, the director of the Department of Health, said 10,000 randomly selected households were sent letters inviting them to get tested between now and March 12. The effort will help the department get an idea of how widely the virus spread in the state. This is the second time the state has run this type of testing program. The first, conducted in May 2020, found that about 2.2 percent of the state's residents had coronavirus antibodies in their systems.
