13 March, 2021

Description

Tickets are limited and masks are required to attend. Tickets are a suggested $5 donation but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. This workshop series will focus on bringing some of the original imagery and slogans from Atlanta ACT UP activists in the mid-1990s into a contemporary context in order to make queer history more accessible and celebrate a tradition of queer community care. Frequently, queer history and narratives, in general, are portrayed as tragedies; which is valid but can be difficult or overwhelming. Activist burnout compounded with isolation can make anyone feel hesitant about going to protests, speaking out, and being proud. In order to remedy this, this workshop will celebrate intersectional queerness, methods for creative expression for self-care, the tradition of resistance and care in Atlanta, and radical public art. Day 2 of this workshop is on Saturday 3/20/2021. Folks are welcome to come to one or both. Facilitated by local artist Magda Dumitrescu. Hosted at The Bakery East Point.
