Description
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN— Mendota Heights representative in the Minnesota House Ruth Richardson proposed a bill that would prevent early childhood students from being suspended or expelled, KSTP reported.
Richardson said that in many schools, there is a pattern to which students get suspended or expelled, usually Black, Indigenous, or students with disabilities, KSTP reported.
Exceptions to this bill would be if a student poses a threat to themselves or others, or if all other disciplinary methods have been exhausted, KSTP reported.
Responses to the bill were split, with some thinking it was a great idea, and others feeling it limits a teacher's options when dealing with a troublesome child, KSTP reported.
