BURNSVILLE, MN— An Eagan man is accused of assaulting two people with a baseball bat outside a Burnsville restaurant on Saturday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Minnesota's 1st Judicial Court. Fabian Balderas Valdez, 30, of Eagan, is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, according to the complaint. The maximum sentence Valdez could face if convicted is 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $20,000, the complaint said. When officers responded to the assault Saturday, they saw a man and women in the parking lot, the complaint said. Officials said a woman was unconscious on the ground with a pool of blood around her head, and the man was also bleeding with a laceration on the back of his head, according to the complaint. Both the man and woman were taken to the hospital, the complaint said. The man and woman had gone out to dinner at the restaurant where Valdez was also dining, the complaint said. When the group left the restaurant, Valdez followed them out and hit them both repeatedly with a baseball bat, the complaint said. Officials said that officers later found Valdez hiding in a dumpster in Eagan and arrested him.
