With the recent transition of power, likely encompassing a renewed focus on inequality, it’s a reasonable conjecture that the phrase “trickle-down” will come back into vogue among those of the left. But what does that phrase really mean? Is it materially different from Supply Side economics? Earle will explain the myth of this phrase intended to evoke emotional reactions and talk about the economic reality of efforts to generate economic growth that benefit all levels of the income distribution. The Bastiat Society of Nashville’s speaker series is co-sponsored by The Beacon Center of Tennessee & The Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) (affiliated with Middle Tennessee State University). Earle is an economist and writer who joined AIER in 2018 and prior to that spent over 20 years as a trader and analyst in global financial markets on Wall Street. His research focuses on financial markets, monetary issues, and economic history. He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, NPR, and in numerous other publications. Pete holds an MA in Applied Economics from American University, an MBA (Finance), and a BS in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Follow him on Twitter.
