FLORIDA — CVS pharmacies in Florida began offering the coronavirus vaccine to all teachers, regardless of age, Wednesday, as well as day care and preschool workers, WESH reported. This goes against state orders limiting vaccine eligibility to specific groups. At the start of Florida's vaccine rollout in December, the vaccine was only offered to seniors 65 and older, frontline health care workers, and residents and staff at long-term care facilities. On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order expanding eligibility for the vaccine to all K-12 school personnel, police officers and firefighters in the state who are 50 and older. Even with this expansion, teachers under 50 aren't eligible for the vaccine in Florida. CVS said that it's following President Joe Biden's orders for retailers in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program to prioritize educators without any age limit, reports said. "We've aligned with updated Federal Retail Pharmacy Program guidelines by making appointments available to pre-K through 12 educators and staff and childcare workers in all 17 states where we currently offer COVID-19 vaccines," the Rhode Island-based company said in a statement. CVS began offering the vaccine in Florida Feb. 25 at select Navarro Discount Pharmacies, CVS Pharmacy y más stores and CVS pharmacies. Those interested in receiving the vaccine at a CVS-owned store can register online here.
