Car Pulled From Point Pleasant Canal Following Mishap

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — A teen driver and her passenger escaped injury Wednesday night after her car slid down a boat ramp into the Point Pleasant Canal, police said Thursday. The 17-year-old was backing up by the water at the Loveland Place public boat ramp when her 2007 Honda Accord began to slide on wet dirt and entered the water, Point Pleasant Police Capt. Adam T. Picca said. The driver and her passenger got out of the car without help but the car continued to slide down the boat ramp at 2001 Loveland Place, just off Beach Boulevard, until it was submerged in the shallow water where small boats are launched, Picca said. The Point Pleasant Fire Department and Ocean Bay Auto Body responded and pulled the car out of the water, with help from the Point Pleasant Fire Department's scuba team, which assisted with connecting tow lines. Ocean Bay Auto Body towed the vehicle from the scene. The Point Pleasant First Aid Squad also responded, Picca said. The investigation is continuing but no charges have been filed, Picca said.
