Description

I have been fostering one-year-old Sammy in Santa Barbara for the past month. She is spayed and microchipped and has all her vaccines. She is a medium-sized (about 35 lb.) shepherd-heeler mix. Sammy loves all people and greets everyone with a tail wag (especially kids and the mailman) but is particular about what dogs she likes. She knows basic commands “sit” and “down,” and we are currently working on “bed.” She is highly food motivated so she learns very quickly. Sammy thrives on exercise. I am currently walking/running her about 5 miles each day. We’ve been working on improving her game of fetch, so with a large enough yard, that may be able to fulfill at least part of her exercise need. After a walk or run, Sammy happily sleeps or chews on her toys while I work. She is crate-trained but would not be happy crated more than 3-4 hours while someone is away from home. Sammy is an extremely well-behaved young dog but still has some puppy behaviors. Due to her occasional mouthiness and tendency to jump on people she first meets (a behavior that I’m working on eliminating), she would probably be best in a home without small children. Sammy would likely do fine in a home with dog-savvy cats. She has been in a foster home with a cat, but she will chase the cat if given the opportunity. If you’re interested in Sammy, please reply with a short introduction to yourself. We do not reply to one line inquires. There is a rehoming fee towards the cost of her rescue.
