Hoboken Police Charge Man With Carjacking, Throwing Fluids At Cop

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police arrested a man on charges of carjacking, throwing bodily fluid at a law enforcement officer, and PCP possession after an incident on Monday afternoon. Police say they arrested Madhur Patel, 24, from Jersey City, at 4:34 p.m. on 14th Street, near the city's northern border. They say they received multiple 911 calls of a male attempting to enter motor vehicles in the area of 14th and Park Avenue, according to police — as people were driving them. Police Officer Francis McCourt and Police Officer Enrico Gnassi responded. Two drivers told police that they were stopped at a red light at the intersection of 14th and Park Avenue with one vehicle stopped behind the other. As they waited for the light to turn green, Patel, according to them, approached their vehicles and attempted to gain entry by pulling on the door handle. But both cars were locked. Police said, "While the officers were conducting their investigation, Patel spat at Officer McCourt hitting him on his leg. As a result of the investigation and spitting on Officer McCourt, Patel was placed under arrest." Patel was searched incident to his arrest and was found to be in possession of a control dangerous substance suspect Phencyclidine (PCP), police say. They say he was ultimately charged with two counts of carjacking, throwing bodily fluid, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance PCP. After being processed, Patel was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. The defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
