Pirates, PNC Reach New 10-Year Stadium Naming Rights Agreement

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pirates and PNC have agreed to extend their naming rights deal for the team's stadium for a decade. The Pirates and PNC announced the agreement Thursday. Financial terms were not disclosed. "PNC's shared pride in our city and commitment to make a difference in our community remains an important aspect of our work together," Pirates president Travis Williams stated on the team's Twitter page. PNC Park opened in 2001, as the Pirates moved from Three Rivers Stadium to the new facility. In 1998, when the stadium was under construction, PNC agreed to pay the Pirates $1.5 million annually through the 2020 season for the new ballpark's naming rights. The Steelers also moved to a new locale in 2001, and Heinz purchased those stadium naming rights for 20 years. The Steelers and Kraft Heinz announced a one-year extension of the naming rights in January. Heinz Field also is home to the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team.
