FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort Police Department has earned the Lexipol Connect 2020 Gold Award, Chief John Burica said during the Monday Village Board meeting. Board documents state the award reflects commitment to fair, equitable policing for every member of the community. Lexipol is a policy manual the police department has a subscription to, Burica said. Lexipol regularly updates the police department's policies with changing legislation, expectation and training requirements, board documents state. "It's really nice to have because when things like HB 3653 come along, and have all these regulations and all of these updates, many of the common sense reforms that did make sense were already in our manual and had been there for many years," Burica said. The police department has been using Lexipol for over 15 years, Burica said. According to Lexipol's website, its Connect Recognition program strives for excellence in policy and training management. The program offers bronze, silver and gold recognition levels. The program involves five metrics, including: policies issued, updates pending, daily training bulletins issued, policies acknowledged, and daily training bulletins taken. To reach gold recognition, the department had to meet requirements of these metrics, including acknowledging at least 80 percent of policies and issuing at least 80 percent of the daily training bulletin packages. "It definitely keeps us up-to-date," Burica said. "By doing that, I think we stay ahead of all of these issues that are coming out there."
