LOS ANGELES, CA — A car theft turned into an art heist in Los Angeles last week when a Lincoln MKZ was stolen with two Jack Armstrong paintings inside. Police are asking for help catching the thief and retrieving the pilfered paintings. Considered the father of "Cosmic Extensionalism" Armstrong paintings have sold for as much as $6 million, according to his website. The Lincoln MKZ was stolen sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 and 11:30 a.m. the next day. Its owner had parked the vehicle near West Kenyon Avenue and 80th Street overnight, and he discovered it gone the next morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Inside the vehicle were two 2-by-3-foot original Jack Armstrong paintings, according to police. Armstrong is a colorful character in the art world. According to his website, he is the nephew of astronaut Neil Armstrong and is best known for founding the art movement "Cosmic Extensionalism." The style is characterized by bold and bright colors. His paintings are currently listed for sale at prices ranging from $2 million to $10 million.
