Description

18 year-old Ellie Farr, artist, cat lover and freshman at the PrattMWP College of Art & Design in Utica, is the winner of a contest at Oneida Center in early February. Farr's work, "Swimmer's Ear" competed with 23 other pieces that was part of a mobile art exhibit in the lobby at the 120-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility, the Oneida Center on Kemble Street. Ellie Farr and Molly, the Family Cat That Has Given Her So Much Inspiration For Her Work "Swimmer's Ear" includes an image of an oceanic dreamy and tranquil woman blending in with large fish, jellyfish, octopus and a large cat. As an animal and cat lover, Ms. Farr has a cat named Molly, a very special cat to her family in Berlin, Vermont, makes it into the winning painting showing off her artist creativity. Molly isn't the only inspirational part of her work she says. "I feel really lucky to have such an encouraging family, they are amazing, but I also get inspiration from a variety of loves such as history, music, folklore, and my own experiences. I frequently find myself inspired by the ocean because of the vast amount of sea life and its mystery." Shannon Stockbridge, PrattMWP's Gallery Director and School of Art Social Media Manager created this exhibition with Oneida Center Rehabilitation Director Richard White and Recreation Director Laura Campbell to show the art work from the students to the residents at Oneida Center in Utica and residents chose their favorites. Shannon Stockbridge "We are so proud of Ellie," said Stockbridge. "All of the students had such amazing pieces and we are all blessed here at the college to have such amazing talent, but Ellie's painting Swimmer's Ear was simply majestic." As an illustration major, Ellie also said that in the future, she would love to illustrate books or work in visual development for film and television, but as long as she has art in her life, she'll be happy. Congrats Ellie!
