Our annual draft style softball tourney May 8 & 9, 2021The tourney games will be at CarteeEvery team will feature a custom SuperDraft 9 jerseyWe’re planning on 18 men’s (198 players) and 8 women’s teams (88 players).Deadline to get a spot is March 31The drafts will be live the week of April 3. This early draft will allow us time to get the jerseys done, will remove the rushed process to the draft, and it will give us more game slots which means more turf usage. This year we’ll have access to all 4 turf fields plus Cartee 5 & 6.COVID-19 POLICYDue to the unique format of this tournament, we have to commit and draft the teams a month ahead of the event (first week of April) so we can order the custom jerseys and have them manufactured in time for the tourney. This gives a lot of opportunities for local policies to change or be amended, affecting our ability to run the tourney as expected. If local COVID-19 protocal changes are made after the draft that require the tourney to be delayed, players will receive their jersey ($35 value) and the remaining $15 will be refunded. HOW THE WAITLIST WORKSBEFORE THE DRAFT: If we’ve hit our team total, currently 8 women’s and 18 men’s, we’ll halt sign-ups and start a waitlist. If players drop off the active list due to injury or other issues OR If we have enough players (11) to make another team we’ll add players from the waitlist. AFTER THE DRAFT: Once the draft is done WE WILL NOT ADD new teams but will use the waitlist to fill positions should players be unable to attend. We'll be giving away a bat and a few other items to those that check-in Friday.S A T U R D A Y CHECK-IN: Saturday at Cartee, 8 amWOMEN'S & MEN'S RR GAMES: start at 8:30 amCan't emphasize this enough, the SuperDraft is a TWO DAY tourney, Saturday and Sunday. If you can’t play both days PLEASE do not sign up. Teams are drafted with the expectation that players can make it to both days games.Why we do it? Softball season in Alaska is short and every weekend counts. Early season tourneys typically have lower team turnouts but we think it’s not because players don’t want to play it’s just harder to get full teams. What it is? Our solution is a SuperDraft tournament - think of when you were a kid and you had to choose up teams from everyone that wanted to play. We’re going back to basics, we’re playing to just play. No Nationals berth, no roster checks, nothing, just play the game and make some new friends and shake off the cobwebs from the long Alaska winter. Who? Were shooting for a 16 team men’s and a 6 team women’s tourney, 11 players to a team so everyone plays. You don’t have to play on a men’s or women’s team, COED PLAYERS are more than welcome and even encouraged. Hell you don’t even need to have a team yet as we’re hoping new players can use the tourney to network a little, show their skills and find a team that fits their play. THIS IS A TWO DAY EVENT, Please don’t sign-up if you can’t commit to playing both days. How? One of the concerns that has popped up several times is how will the teams be balanced. We can’t guarantee that all the teams will have the same roster and that every game will come down to the last at bat. What we are doing is making sure the people we pick as coaches are knowledgable about the talent that is available and that they are competitive and interested in putting a team together. The draft will be very similar to a fantasy football or baseball draft, 1-16, 16-1 and so on. It will be up to the coach to make the decision about when to grab a pitcher and just how important is a shortstop. We hope by making solid choices for coaches it will help make the rosters a little more balanced. Draft will take place the first weekend of April.
