HINGHAM, MA — The Hingham Police Department has donated $1,000 to the Susan F. Smith Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston through the sale of Pink Patch Project patches. The department is one of over 500 public safety agencies nationwide that partners with the Pink Patch Project, a collaborative cancer awareness fundraiser. This was the Hingham Police Department's second year participating in the project. All the profits from the sale of pink patches go towards cancer treatment, research, and education with the goal of increasing education surrounding detection and prevention and raising money for further cancer research and treatment for those who have been diagnosed. In October of each year, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, uniformed personnel are allowed to replace their standard shoulder patches with pink patches to show support for the cause. The Hingham Police Pink Patches are $10 each and can be purchased all year round at the department's front desk or by mailing a check payable to the Hingham Police Department - Pink Patch Project, 212 Central Street in Hingham.
