BEVERLY, MA —Endicott College athletes who have been relegated to the sidelines and intra-squad scrimmages for a full year will get a chance to compete against league rivals this spring.
Both the Commonwealth Coast Conference and New England College Conference both cleared member teams to play a season starting later this month amid declining coronavirus numbers. Last spring's season was canceled amid the onset of the coronavirus crisis, while fall and winter teams were allowed only to practice and scrimmage.
Endicott competes in the CCC in baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis, men's golf and women's track and field. Endicott plays in the NECC in men's volleyball.
The CCC seasons are scheduled to start March 27, while men's volleyball could play as soon as March 12.
"With the safety of the Endicott community as our top priority, no spectators will be permitted at any Endicott home sporting event that is conducted in 2020-21," Endicott officials said.
Strict coronavirus protocols will include twice-weekly testing and a negative test at least 72 hours before competition. All players, coaches, team personnel and coaches must wear a face mask during events.
Conference schedules and tournament formats will be determined within the next couple of weeks. Endicott will be able to schedule non-conference games if it wishes to do so.
