3 Percent Increases Proposed For Trumbull Schools, Town Budgets

TRUMBULL, CT — With an eye toward trying to keep increases to a minimum due to the toll the coronavirus pandemic has taken on the community, First Selectman Vicki Tesoro is proposing a $183.8 million budget to operate schools and town government for 2021-22. The spending plan represents a 3 percent increase over the current year's allocation, and will raise taxes by just over 3 percent. Tesoro presented her proposal to the Board of Finance for consideration this week; in addition to that group, the budget also must be approved by the Town Council. Trumbull Public Schools would receive $112.3 million under Tesoro's proposal, up 3 percent over the current year. The allocation represents more than 60 percent of the overall budget. With the proposed tax increase, a homeowner in a $400,000 home (the average assessed value) could see taxes rise by just over $300 in 2021-22, according to Tesoro. See the table below.
