HAMDEN, CT — A woman faces a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal DUI crash that killed a North Haven man early New Year's Day in Hamden, according to police. The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the area of Whitney Avenue and Buell Drive. The driver of one of the vehicles, 55-year-old James McKenna, was killed in the crash, according to Hamden Police Capt. Ronald Smith. Police found that a vehicle driven by Taya Petteway-Campbell was traveling north on Whitney Avenue when it crossed the double-yellow center markings and hit McKenna's vehicle, which was heading south on Whitney Avenue, head-on, Smith said. Officer Brett Ferrara conducted an investigation that led to an arrest warrant for Petteway-Campbell. Petteway-Campbell, 22, of Hamden, was arrested Tuesday on charges of second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, operating under the influence, speeding and failure to drive in proper lane. She was released after posting a $75,000 bond with a court date of May 3.
