PORTSMOUTH, RI — Rhode Island voters went to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots concerning seven statewide budget questions. All seven questions were approved. Here in Portsmouth, voters followed the statewide trend by approving all seven questions. A breakdown of votes by question and type is listed below. Question One $107.3 million for higher education, including $57.3 million for a fine arts center at URI, $38 million for the Clarke Science Building at RIC and $12 million to renovate CCRI's campuses. Approve 1,294 votes51.1 percent Reject 1,236 votes48.9 percent Question Two $74 million for environment and recreational projects, a total of $10 million over the governor's original proposal. Approve 1,762 votes69.7 percent Reject 767 votes30.3 percent Question Three $65 million for affordable housing, an increase of $40 million over the original proposal, included in the amendment offered by the governor in July. Approve 1,524 votes60.4 percent Reject 1,000 votes39.4 percent Question Four $71.7 million for transportation initiatives. Approve 2,028 votes80.1 percent Reject 505 votes19.9 percent Question Five $15 million for early childhood care and the educational capital fund. Approve 1,530 votes60.6 percent Reject 995 votes39.4 percent Question Six $7 million for arts and cultural infrastructure, including $6 million for the cultural arts and economy grant program, and $1 million for the state preservation grants program. Approve 1,374 votes54.2 percent Reject 1,161 votes45.8 percent Question Seven $60 million for commerce infrastructure, including $20 million for the Port of Davisville at Quonset and $40 million for industrial site development. Approve 1,357 votes53.6 percent Reject 1,175 votes46.4 percent
