NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The Town of North Kingstown has been chosen to participate in Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank's 2021 Resilient Rhody Municipal Resilience Program, said the company in a news release. North Kingstown is one of six communities, including East Providence, Cumberland, Jamestown, New Shoreham, and Providence, who were selected to participate in this year's program, which provides direct support to cities and towns for localized climate-resilience projects. "The Infrastructure Bank is committed to working with our municipal partners to accelerate investment in critical infrastructure and nature-based solutions that better prepare Rhode Island communities for a changing climate," said R.I. Infrastructure Bank CEO Jeffrey R. Diehl in a statement. Participating communities are required to identify eligible projects that will help them adjust to the changing climate, including dam repair and removal, road elevation, hardening or elevation of pump stations, berms and levies, culvert repair, green stormwater infrastructure, back-up power and energy efficiency, watershed restoration, urban tree planting, and coastal erosion control. They must also provide a 25 percent local match. The seven communities who participated in to 2020 round of the program were awarded a total of $1.5 million in grants to implement climate-resilience projects.
