MURRIETA, CA — Concerned citizens reported seeing a fiery crash early Sunday morning on Clinton Keith Road in Murrieta, and police confirmed Wednesday that the solo-vehicle incident was not fatal.
Around 1:02 a.m., Murrieta police officers responded to the crash scene on Clinton Keith at Cal Fire Station #75, west of Wildomar, according to Murrieta police Lt. James Gruwell.
They found a vehicle "engulfed in flames at the bottom of the ravine west of Clinton Keith Road," Gruwell explained.
Crews with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and Murrieta Fire and Rescue searched the ravine for the vehicle's driver, and at approximately 2:30 a.m. found him coming out of the brush near the west Bear Creek entrance, the lieutenant said.
The man, who admitted to being the driver, had no visible injuries, Gruwell continued.
"Out of concern that the driver may have sustained a head injury, he was transported to Inland Valley Hospital by AMR for medical treatment," Gruwell said. "Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, and the cause of the collision is still under investigation."
